ETPU is a foam made of small beads. Each bead compresses under load and recovers its shape. That is what makes the sole soft to land on and springy to walk in.

What is Hypercushion?
Hypercushion is a cushioned sole made from 10,000+ small ETPU (Expanded Thermoplastic Polyurethane) beads fused together into a single sole. The closed-cell beads squash underfoot to absorb landing impact and spring back into shape to deliver a responsive, bouncy step.
How is ETPU different from the foam in regular shoes?
Unlike standard EVA foam, ETPU is made from thermal-expanded air beads with internal micro-air pockets. This closed-cell structure offers significantly higher energy return and bounce, better shock absorption, longer-lasting cushioning that won't flatten out easily, and improved thermal breathability.
Are Hypercushion shoes light?
Yes. Despite the thick, chunky midsole design, the ETPU air-bead technology utilizes lightweight foam cores that provide maximum cushioning without adding heavy bulk or drag to your stride. (Note: exact shoe weight varies slightly by model and size.)
Which Hypercushion shoe should I choose?
